Furthermore, she has completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (with Honours) at RMIT University, where she is currently undertaking a Masters of Fine Art.
Castellas makes art to connect to people. It is a form of communication and self-expression. For her, there isn't anything better or more challenging than being able to communicate a memory. Sharing memories is a way of connecting with other people. Everybody has their memories and personal stories; Castellas finds this fascinating when she has created something that sparks a memory shared between people. Working with sculptural form, Castellas incorporates colour, texture, and items sourced from the artist's domestic environment to give discarded items a new purpose and vitality. Samantha Castellas believes in the importance of seeing the possibility and magic in the mundane. |
