Rainy Days by Stephen Simmons

Features

ARTIST NOTES: Winter reminds me of flames dancing off a log as it burns to warm your body. The colors I chose were to reflect the heat on a cold day. Sometimes I use the same characters in many of my paintings. In this one for example, the female in the green top is my daughter who has been in many of my paintings, and the lady in red is from a painting titled Chinatown, which was part of series purchased by a Singapore patron.

ARTIST BIO

Born in Carlton, Victoria, Stephen Simmons is an emerging painter whose work captures the vibrant colors of light and shade. Simmons fascination with art started as a young child where he had a natural gift for drawing. Growing up as 1 of 6 children in a working class family art was not encouraged as a working career, and so, many years of drifting from job to job and time was spent to focus on raising his own family. Though he wasn’t actively painting in those years he kept up his drawing skills developing an eye for detail.

Stephen’s passion for art never waived and in the early nineties he decided the time was right to hone his skills. Largely self-taught he spent countless hours in the library reading books about artist and learning how they produced such great works. He also read any book by a teacher of art and practice the examples given, and he spent hours watching YouTube videos or Google searches on the subject of painting. He found his passion with impressionism and this style you will see reflected in his work.

Stephen Simmons is a recognized international artist with works sold worldwide including a collection in Singapore.

Currently, Stephen Simmons is working on a private commission and preparing a body of work for future exhibitions.
