ARTIST BIO

Artist statement

Visual artist and author of "Blues Portrait - a profile of the Australian blues scene"
Website: www.paulinebaileyart.com

I was born in the Melbourne suburb of Oakleigh and currently live in rural Gippsland where I work from the peaceful surrounds of my home studio. I have been a practising artist for the past fifteen years working across a variety of media. My preferred medium is acrylic on canvas, but I also incorporate charcoal, pastel, collage and oils along with photography and digital media.

The urban environment is of particular interest to me and I frequently travel back to the city for inspiration and to observe the ever-changing urban landscape. Railway stations, disused buildings, pubs, café, shopfronts and live music venues are among my favourite subjects. I am also very passionate about the local music scene which is a recurring theme throughout my work.

I have held a number of solo exhibitions and I have exhibited locally in Gippsland, Melbourne, and interstate. I have also completed a number of private commissions and my work has been purchased by clients in Europe and the USA. I have been shortlisted for several major art prizes throughout Australia including the Fleurieu Art Prize in South Australia, the Hornsby Art Prize in NSW and the Flanagan Art Prize in Victoria. In 2015 and 2016 I was selected as a finalist in the CityScapes competition in Florida, USA.
In 2017 I collaborated with Kim Volkman to edit and publish his autobiography, “The Devil Won't Take Charity” and in 2019 we collaborated again to publish Kim's second book, “For Those That Dance With The Skeleton - A Book of Short Stories.” www.facebook.com/VolkmanBailey2017/

In 2019, I wrote and self-published my own book, “Blues Portrait - A Profile of the Australian Blues Scene” which was launched at The Rainbow Hotel in Fitzroy on 10th November, 2019. Volumes 2 and 3 were release simultaneously in November 2021.
